Wow, I renjoyed this post Patricia. It is hard to believe that it is 26 years old now, it seems quite timeless.

The entirity of it is quite a beautiful narritive, but some lines that stood out were:

"Leaving invisible trails of talk since we last spoke." - I have never heard that expression before and I think it is wonderful. There is that invisible thread that can be woven from conversations that still tug at us. Wondeful!

"But not the smoke between power-source and flesh." - This line is great due to the multiple ways it can be interpreted. (I do alot of this in my work) but 'the smoke between power' is an interesting thought by itself, 'source and flesh' is another interesting thought. And the way this line can be disassembled and reassembled allow for the poem to be more expansive. Well done!

Thank you for taking the time to write and then to share.

I appreciate it!

With love and gratitude,

Awe

As fresh as ever, Patricia—hard to believe you wrote it 26 years ago—the words stand up so well and, as Awe stated in their comment, the lines are expansive enough to find more than a single interpretation.
