During Covid, I began to explore making jewelry. As a native of the Southwest U.S. (Arizona/New Mexico/West Texas) I shared an affinity to indigenous art of that area, and sometimes I think the dust of four generations permeates my blood. I have referenced what I have seen and loved, and hoped to have honored it rather than stolen something. It is a strange thing to feel that something is a part of you because of where you live. You want to reference that magic, but not steal it. My calling card is “Human Hands”. What do you think?
Patricia- I echo every bit of what you said here on Human Hands. Particularly when one has lived in the stunning southwest. I love all the artisan works in Santa Fe. Are you working on more jewelry these days? 🙌🏼
Thank you for your remarks. I began my jewelry “habit” during the Covid epidemic, but underlying that event was watching the creeping influence of AI in our artistic efforts. Things have not gotten better in that area as I see more and more CG inclusion that creates a misleading history of why we are who we are. My latest effort is my favorite one. It consists of a large polished clam shell representing an ocean. To that, i have added Avery small turtle 3D piece. Its shell is inlaid with abalone shell bits. What is its name? “How the World Looks”. And so it does — in many origin stories around the world!
Thinking, designing, and crafting. Go for it.

How The World Looks sounds like a perfect title for that piece. With abalone shell bits no less! I bet it was a mesmerizing experience to create this?
I cross posted my answer on notes so I could include a photo. I hope you can tackle. A look at it. I’d like to see what you think.
Patricia- Thanks for sharing these. That third piece really speaks to me. I think it’s fantastic. Cheers, -Thalia
Thank you. Very kind of you to comment. So interesting to work with only “real” pieces. So much of what we see is mass-produced repetition.
I love hand made items. I always try to find hand crafted stuff if possible, even if it is a bit more expensive. Beautifully done.
It sure beats consumer costume jewelry.
wonderful
Thank you!
